Kent Opera has always had a commitment to working with emerging singers and artists. For example, in Summer 2016, it conducted a series of rehearsals/trainings with young singers culminating in a semi-staged performance of Clemenza di Tito at its London base, St Anne’s Church Hoxton.
Kent Opera Associate, Colin Morris directed the training with Andrew Charity, its Musical Director. This work then had a further life, in February 2017 with public performances in Sheppey, Deal and, again, at St Anne’s, with some of the original cast and new singers added.
We hope to work again with these artists. And to provide work for more emerging stars. As is often said, in UK opera much talent is left to wither in the desert and we would hope to provide, whenever we can, oases.
Stephen Tiller, in his previous incarnation as director of OperaMachine is proud to have given firm footing on the ladder to Becca Marriot (OperaMachine, OperaUpClose/Soho Theatre, Tete a Tete), Anna Jeruc (National Opera Warsaw, Theatre Frieburg, National Touring Opera) and Lesya Alekseeva (Ukraine National Opera Taras Shevchenko and Mariinski Opera, St Petersburg), to highlight just a few.
