Ian’s operatic journey began back in 1974, aged 3, when he saw his brother performing in a school play about “The Flying Dutchman”. Music has been part of his life for as long as he can remember, with Sunday evenings as a child being spent with his father listening to symphonies and piano concertos by the great romantic composers, the only one of four children who showed any interest in classical music. From 1997, having abandoned a career in banking, Ian trained for six years at Trinity College of Music and gained his Bachelor or Music and a PG Diploma. He has performed with Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Grange Park Opera and many other companies, and sung such demanding roles as Wotan, the Chief of the Norse Gods; Henry VIII; ancient philosphers and priests, and aged gamblers! Other interests outside of music include photography, art, reading, writing, swimming and history. When not singing, Ian works for a large London minicab firm… so you may just be driven by this interesting performer one day!
