Kent Opera is delighted to be in partnership with Swaleside Prison on the Isle of Sheppey and its Education, Training and Employment team to do a series of ten workshops with prisoners.
The timetable starts in early September 2017 when Artistic Director Steve Tiller and Associate Chris Montague meet prisoners and run a ‘taster workshop’ introducing them to the work of Kent Opera and the themes of the Othello/Otello story.
In mid- to late-September, 8 members of the Kent Opera Ensemble will go into the prison and perform scenes from our recent tour.
And in early October workshops will begin. Meeting two groups weekly for ten weeks we will gradually make a new piece of theatre that will be acted, sung and performed by inmates and professionals together in early December.
Friends, family, loved ones and members of the public will be able to attend the performance. And, we trust, make the inmates we work with more socialised and hopeful of a successful move into employability and community integration.
